“Vice President [Joe] Biden is asking the president to bypass Congress and use executive privilege, executive order to ban assault rifles and to impose stricter gun control,” CEO of a Tennessee company that specializes in weapons and tactical training Steven Yeager explained in his video message. “Fuck that.”
“I’m telling you that if that happens, it’s going to spark a civil war, and I’ll be glad to fire the first shot. I’m not putting up with it. You shouldn’t put up with it. And I need all you patriots to start thinking about what you’re going to do, load your damn mags, make sure your rifle’s clean, pack a backpack with some food in it and get ready to fight.”
Yaeger concluded: “I’m not fucking putting up with this. I’m not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I’m not letting anybody take my guns! If it goes one inch further, I’m going to start killing people.”
Yaeger posted this video after earlier that week the conservative website Drudge Report had compared Obama to Hitler and Stalin and after a conservative radio host on Wednesday warned Fox News that President Barack Obama was “becoming more like Hugo Chavez all the time” and that any effort to control guns in the wake of the Newtown massacre would be “like Nazi Germany.”
I am so glad and feel so much safer that we are so vigilantly protecting ourselves against those violent middle eastern terrorists whose thuggish members are uncivilized fanatics with no regard for the value of human life, while upholding the (alleged) rights of such reasonable, un-thuggish people like Steven Yeager to own as many and whatever type of guns they like, no questions asked.
It is also very reassuring that the conservative media, such as Fox News – which is basically just the media arm of the Conservative party – totally do not instigate hatred and violence of any kind among their clientele of militant, Right wing nut jobs with a nervous trigger finger, drawing the all too familiar Cold War/the red scare/McCarthyism imagery to scare people into paranoia and militantism After all, nothing makes a country safer than a citizen who vows to kill people in cold blood in order to make a political point.
Seriously. These people must live in some sort of post-apocalyptic war fantasy or something, because in no universe I am familiar with, is guns being shot better than guns not being shot. I seriously think a lot of these guys think they’re living out some action movie or TV show/apocalyptic fantasy or something. The fact that the government places their alleged rights to own an arsenal above the fundamental right of people to life and protection against bodily harm is what is truly scary here.
