Car Elevators and Costco: Ann Romney Antoinette Is a Real Renaissance Woman

Ann Romney must have gotten briefed by her husband’s campaign managing team that Costco can be used for something else beside raiding and a hostile take over or some some shit, because in an attempt to appeal to the common man – or woman –  so everyone thinks she is one of us and not a plutocratic elitist bigot with $55,000 elevators for her cars and a $ 77,000 race horse she tax deducted, Ann Romney Antoinette condescended to our level  by revealing her Costco shopping list when visiting the “Rachael Ray Show” on Thursday.  There, she said she can spend a mere $137.50 when cooking for 30 people, totaling just $4.50 per person. Right, because multi-millionaires who own six mansions and car elevators need to worry about staying within the food budget.

I always start at Costco”, Antoinette said as she took Ray’s film crew on a Costco trip, picking up spinach, berries, frozen cream puffs and rotisserie chicken.  Romney gave some shopping tips, like buying the pre-cooked chicken last so as to not heat up the other food in the cart, the New York Daily News reported.

Isn’t that brilliant? The thought process that must have gone into this: buy the hot food item last so as to not melt the frozen foods. Amazing. Next stop, rocket science, Ann. She really is first wife material just based on that fact alone if you ask me.

Ann Romney is a real renaissance woman see.  She is not just an unemployed parasite sitting pretty with a team of chefs, housekeepers, nannies, groundskeepers and custodial staff on a quarter a billion of dollars of money her husband cheated people, and this nation, out of, she is just a regular Joe, or Josephine. I mean this woman even  knows how to maneuver the Costco aisles all on her own and without a staff.  In an interview, she explained: “I know how to shop Costco. You go in the door — I don’t want everyone to learn this trick — you take a sharp right and you go way down to the back of the store and just shop the outside of the aisles.” Isn’t that amazing? Her publicist team did do a good job briefing her on proper common man etiquette and protocol of how to enter a grocery store and navigate the aisles.

How truly earthen and common man-ish of Ann:  condescending to the level of the common man to show that the silver spoon that’s been shoved down her openings in all these years does not define her plutocratic self at all.

Nothing makes 99% of Americans feels more understood and cared for than a bunch of obscenely wealthy 1%ers slumming it for show. Who are they kidding. Not even Oprah cooks her own food. Assholes

This is almost as good as the lie she told during the RNC when she said that she and Mitt lived in a basement apartment in Boston eating their food on an ironing board they used as table. Poor things, it must have been so awkward when the maid interrupted their dinner to iron.

Anyway, sitting on quarter a billion with countless nannies, chefs and housekeepers, I bet this hands on menial work must be a whole new adventure for Ms. A.R. Antoinette, becasue, see folks, the fact that “little Annie who loves little Willard” is doing some food shopping and food cooking and all those other womanly things,  makes us common folk, and especially women, feel all warm and fuzzy and understood.

Moreover, such a calculated gesture which they were told was going to be politically expedient, also totally shows that her husband is qualified to be the leader of this nation. Becasue see if Ann Romney can cook food for the common man and actually cook it herself no less, instead of sending her houskeeping staff to Whole Foods and Gelson’s to do the shopping and cooking for her, it means that her husband would make the perfect POTUS.

In fact, nothing screams “qualified to hold the office of president” more than a man whose wife can navigate the aisles at Costco and the kitchen.

And as we all know, semi billionaires totally send their wives to push carts at grocery stores, buying pre-packed $ 7.99 rotisserie chicken and frozen, processed foods at whole sale prices for the dinner table, or 137 people as the need may be next time they have a get together with the Koch Brothers and all those people owning football teams.

That $4.50 a person/head budget is totally realistic and am sure comes handy for such high society events.  In fact, the Romneys are just a regular American family who just happen to be part of the 1% with a diabolic plan to remain on top while feeding on the lifeline of everyone else.

Now if this revelation doesn’t convince the independent voters and especially women, I don’t know what will. I mean this is so convincing and as a woman the very issue I care about: how to stretch my food dollars while my man goes out there being a man and doing all the things men do.

Thank you Ann. You are the personification of class and humility indeed. How mighty white of you. And while I think you are nothing but a full of shit, overprivileged plutocrat and doormat of a woman who doesn’t know a thing about how to do anything around a house but buy it and decorate it and whose only exposure to Costco probably was when your husband took you on a tour in case he plans on doing one of those Bain hostile takeovers (also known as working hard and the American Dream),  I applaud you for having the balls to go to Rachael Ray and all over the country, telling lies and being a phony asshole who pretends that she does not have a deep contempt for the american people whom you condescendingly referred to as “you people” when asked about your husband’s refusal to release more than two lousy years of doctored tax returns.

It is so refreshing of you to not pretend that you seem to think of the American people as this nuisance; as this inevitable, annoying, pestering entity you and your fiber coif husband have to unfortunately go through to get to what you really want to do, namely fulfill Mitt’s “destiny” to be President.  Like when you and your husband told the Obamas to “start packing,” because in your words, “It’s Mitt’s time. It’s our turn now,” to live in the White House. As if the Obamas were troublesome tenants who’d overstayed their welcome in the home that rightly belongs to the Romneys.

Thank you Ann. Gee I cannot wait to not vote for your husband.

Stupid Things People Do: Eric and Ruth Brown Accept Daughter’s Birth Defect as God’s Will

Self determination and autonomy have rarely, if ever, been touched upon really in terms of actual policy formulation aimed at granting and protecting and enforcing those rights until the second half of the twentieth century when notions of human rights were formulated after World War II.

Even the Founding Fathers of this nation did not believe in human autonomy for all, which is why women got to vote some 150 years after the foundation of this nation and thus after the Declaration of Independence. When that document reads “all men are created equal“,  it really does mean all males. The Founding Fathers, in all their wisdom notwithstanding, did not recognize that women were part of mankind.

One of our – as human kind – most fundamental rights – which is a human right and something inalienable, irrespective of culture and country of origin – is the freedom to be autonomous and make decisions based on that autonomy. This is a very fundamental and important right that often does not get the important attention it deserves. Way too many people are comfortable with having that autonomy diminished or taken away from them.

Most, if not all, conflicts throughout human history leading up to today, in not only this very country but all around the world really, have been about controlling others by taking away their autonomy to choose for themselves how to live their lives, what to believe in and subsequently what choices to make.

Eric and Ruth Brown were not those people. They had a choice and the freedom to exercise that autonomy to make a choice.

Deformity and Suffering as the Creator’s Will

The couple from Nashville, Tennessee, believe that the genetic disorder that created a cleft in their daughter Pearl Joy’s upper lip and caused her brain’s development to stall in the first weeks in the womb, to be god’s will.

Things didn’t go wrong,” an apparently delusional Eric Brown said. “God has designed Pearl the way he wanted, for his glory and our good”.

This delusion has sustained the Browns ever since ultrasound revealed that the couple’s third child has alobar holoprosencephaly, a rare genetic condition that’s almost always fatal. The Browns never considered abortion. They believe that Pearl is “fearfully and wonderfully made,” as Psalm 139 puts it, and god alone should decide when she lives and when she dies.

Pearl’s  brain never divided into two hemispheres during her development in the womb, which means she is basically a crawling vegetable. “We don’t care about those things. She is here, and her brain is telling her how to live“, says Eric Brown.

The Browns are holding on to dear life, literally, as they delude themselves into believing that as long as their girl is basically still warm she should live and that her life is wonderful and a blessing, even though she has seizures on a daily basis, has a weakened immune system and has been back to the hospital at least five times in the past three months. A simple cold could kill her but “that day hasn’t come yet“, her mother says.  The Browns not only insist she is god’s gift, they also think Pearl is actually fighting.

Fighting for what is unclear. Is she fighting for a miracle? Is she  fighting for growing up being normal after all with this disease poofing out of existence much the same way this Earth poofed into existence according to the Bible?

Even skeptical neighbors, friends and acquaintance have bought into the delusion, applauding the Brown’s decision.

Kristina Guisler, a friend from the MOMS Club of East Nashville, met the Browns in 2009. When she first heard about Pearl’s condition, she said she wasn’t sure the Browns had made the right decision by continuing with the pregnancy. She wondered what kind of life Pearl would have.

But seeing the love that the Browns have for Pearl has changed her mind and strengthened her own faith.

It’s reaffirmed my faith in humanity and in the power of prayer,” she said.

The Browns aren’t the only ones suffering from serious delusions,  Nancy and David Guthrie of Nashville faced the ordeal twice: in 1998 and 2002 when their son and daughter both died in infancy from a fatal genetic condition called Zellweger syndrome. In Gabriel’s case, the Guthries learned he had Zellweger while he was still in the womb.

One of the things we learned is that great sorrow and great joy can coexist,” she said. “Because life in the image of God is so precious, there is great joy in having this one you love with you, even while there is great sorrow in knowing that this child might not grow old with you.”

I have read and seen religious people talk themselves into a whole lot of bullshit and delusions to make it through their lives, but this sure takes the height. What I find particularly disturbing is this:

“God has designed Pearl the way he wanted, for his glory and our good.”

So god, in all his wisdom and love, would afflict a child with disease, deformity and suffering? And being born with a horrible genetic disease that renders you nothing but an animated doll trapped in a painful and torturous existence at the verge of death is something god did for his glory? There is glory to be had from this? And said disease and deformity is for the good of the parents.

All the credit, but none of the blame, huh?  Hmmm maybe god is a Republican after all

But there is a broader canvas here. The above statement by the Browns is disturbing and akin to Indiana Tea Party Senate candidate Richard Mourdock’s comments that pregnancies stemming from rape, however horrible, are “something that God intended to happen” – as if rape wasn’t a crime and heinous act but just something in god’s secret and elaborate plan for all of us lemmings and for “his glory and the victim’s good.”

Does that mean rape itself is part of god’s plan? And genocide? And mass killing and child rape? Most religious people would say “no” (or maybe yes), which creates all sorts of contradictions because what they are saying is that the act of rape is not god’s will but the resulting child is. In other words, god would never orchestrate a rape, but would definitely exploit a rape to impregnate a woman.

That is amazing.  Where do I sign up to worship this excellent decision-maker?

It is great that believing that there is a higher purpose to their suffering has allowed the Brown’s to not only justify their choice but also live with it this long.

Remember people believe in all sorts of stories and even lies for self preservation and to make it through the day and their lives. That is why we have religion in the first place. It is called cognitive dissonance, which is the term used in modern psychology to describe the state of “holding two or more conflicting ideasbeliefsvalues and emotional reactions simultaneously. In a state of dissonance, people may sometimes feel surprise, dread, guilt, anger, or embarrassment. The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions, adding new ones to create a consistent belief system, or alternatively by reducing the importance of any one of the dissonant elements.”

The Brown’s are engaging in precisely that. They are people of faith who believe that the deity they believe in does all things for a reason. Such a notion is an especially opportune world view when good things happen.  When something horrible, such as the birth defect of their child happens, on the other hand, said believers are suddenly left in shock, asking themselves where the good is in having their own child be afflicted with such a condition. Suddenly, painful reality and the tenets of their faith are at odds. If god is all loving and all caring, how can he let this happen? That is where “filling in the gaps” comes in becasue the Browns are human beings who can only take so much pain before losing it.

How do they cope with it? They cope with it by attempts to reconcile the reality of their situation with what they have been taught god to be. Thus, they tell a lie to themselves. But they do not know it is a lie. It cannot be. If it was, that would bring down their entirely worldview and the reality they have created for themselves. Their self delusion in that regard is quite sincere. The Browns have to believe that this is all part of a grander scheme. This, in turn enables them to go through life without feeling hopeless and without loosing their faith and feeling let down by their grand and loving creator.

Delusion is a wonderful thing and nothing deludes more than religion.

The truth, of course, is that this baby will be confronted with a myriad of painful medical procedures that she will have to endure but not understand the need for. There are limits to the amount of painkiller an infant can be given.  The question really is whether the child is having a quality of life that satisfies the child’s nature, or whether being kept alive on IVs, feeding  tubes, oxygen and other meds is the truly loving and wonderful alternative.

And can you say this is what the divine intended when the only thing keeping the child alive is medical technology, not god? The parents might enjoy the love and care they are giving, but what about the infant?

Ultimately, the Browns are doing this to make themselves feel better. They think they are doing this child a favor, but they aren’t, they are only doing themselves a favor and justify their decision by making appeals to the grand schemes of a higher power.

The only victim in this process is Pearl. Her family is holding on to delusions to prolong the life of a vegetable. For Pearl living or not living does not make a difference.  She doesn’t even know what and who and if she is. Her brain didn’t part into two hemispheres for cryin’ out loud.  She is nothing but an animated doll and for her there is no difference between living and dying, becasue there is no “her” there. She is just a breathing shell.

The idea that you have emergency oxygen standing by makes one wonder about whose will we are talking about, god’s or the ego’s.  Her family’s understandable efforts to cope with her condition by putting a pretty spin on it only trivializes her suffering. And theirs.

 Not Just Faith But Choice

The delusion of the Brown’s view on this aside, the bigger question here is that of choice. The beauty of freedom is that people, including the Browns, can choose to believe in any number of lies to make it through  the day and their lives. And their decision, whether I agree with it or not, is ok.

As long as the Browns do not say to someone else that this is why their child has been blessed with a deformity and death. they can believe in hob goblins as far as I – and reality – are concerned. Sure it is naive and ignorant to attribute any condition onto god, and I mean naive in the sense of immature, unknowing as it relates, but if that is what they need to make it through their lives, who am I, or anyone, to argue with that?

Only that the delusions of religious people are rarely confined to their own personal realm

And therein lies the fundamental problem with letting faith guide your decisions. Religious people place their emotions before their intelligence. The problem is that when people make important decisions based on a fantastical belief system rather than facing unpleasant realities that they’d rather pretend don’t exist, it can leave a lot of collateral damage that affects others. Just look at the recent assault on women’s reproductive rights callously championed by Republicans and conservatives based on their religious beliefs.

The Browns – for better or worse – had a choice with respect to keeping this child alive and caring for it. Ruth Brown could have gotten an abortion, but due to her personal beliefs she decided not to. She had a choice.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the kinds of policies Republicans push for and have partially succeeded in when  it comes to granting women autonomy and the freedom to choose what they believe to be the best decision for them. The Browns were lucky that they were able to make the decision to have their the child without threats and pressure to obtain an abortion.

At the same time, remember that simply becasue it worked for the Browns and was the best decision they could make based on their lives, it does not mean it is the only right and honorable answer. A couple choosing to get an abortion should be able to do so without facing obstacles and judgment and shame just as the Browns. In short, the Brown’s decision to keep the child is not more admirable than the decision of someone else in the same situation to abort it.

In the end, it is all about choice and giving people the freedom to make that choice. In this day and age, it’s a true luxury to have one’s autonomy respected and your choices be your own. I wish lawmakers everywhere would make note of this because nothing diminishes an individual more than stripping them off autonomy.

Food Stamps in the Way of Republican Plans to Increase Entitlements for Military

Paul Ryan’s plan for helping the poor is to cut programs for the poor.

Now this is the kind of logic and policy advise Mary Antoinette and Louis XIV could have used to prevent having their heads chopped off: in order to help the poor suffering from lack of opportunity and destitution, keep cutting programs aimed at helping them out of poverty. Now why didn’t they think of that back in 1789 when people were starving and instead said something intelligent like “let them eat cake.” This is much more effective. And smarter.

See folks, being poor is a pleasure and choice many people consciously and willingly make. As we all know, there is nothing more fun than being poor and struggling to make it and being at the mercy of anyone without much choice or autonomy. And yeah, nothing beats that $200 a month in food stamps, which means something like a whopping $7.21 a day for food. Now that is what I call taking advantage of the system. Those food stamp recipients are getting away with highway robbery. After all, there ain’t nothing better than sitting on your ass getting those great food stamps sent to you so you don’t starve.

And as we all also know, welfare recipients in a country with a practically non existent safety net already have it so good: they get to send their kids to top notch schools on tax payer dollars, they live in the best residences in the best neighborhoods in this country, also funded by tax dollars, they have the best health due to the immense and affordable health care resources at their disposal and let’s not even mention those food stamps they use to eat and not starve.

Since they do so much better than anyone else could ever imagine, we have to put a stop to that; we have to put a stop to these people living in the lap of luxury wanting food, health care and jobs. We need to do such things so we can give more tax cuts to people making $250k or more a year and millionaires, since clearly they need the money while these poor mooches don’t. They worked for it remember, while most people don’t work for it.

So what you live in a poor neighborhood and go to a shitty, underfunded poor public school with 100% racial minorities and metal detectors at the door; you can totally move upward if you put your mind to it. This is America.

You are hungry from not having enough money to pay for your food at the school cafeteria? Go ask daddy to dip into your trust fund and help you out (by the way you should remember this for when you get into that Ivy league school with those amazing grades you totally had the chance of getting in a school falling apart at the seams and metal detectors at the door – if you can’t pay for it, just ask your parents, silly). This is America.

The thing is, our military needs more money and we need to take that money off the back of those pesky food stamp recipients referenced above.  It is not enough that we have a military spending that is greater than that of the next ten nations combined. We need more.

Think of all the defense contracts we will get to issue to places like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon  – corporations that pay little to no taxes while posting record profits – to build more weapons and ships we don’t need, but which we can sell to other nations so they keep killing people we do not approve of.  Or heck even to people we do not know anything about. Business is business and war is great for business. Food stamps aren’t. Why spend money feeding the poor and children or any human beings for that matter if we could spend that money to wage wars and take lives? Don’t you know what America stands for? We are a peace loving nation.

You have to understand that the Republican efforts to slash the food stamp program is based upon the conservative belief that low paid soldiers will fight harder for their starving families.

Poor defense contractors not being able to make the payments on their yachts or refurnish their second dream homes on the private islands that they own, on the other hand, is the real tragedy here. It is a real shame to ask the rich to be responsible enough to provide food for the starving among us. We really would not want the rich to suffer because they deserve so much.

So what you have become ill and had to stop working, have no insurance because no one will insure you for any amount and lost everything – going from a $60,000 a year income to something like maybe $14,000 a year and now have to feed yourself on less than $200 a month in food stamps. So what you walk into the grocery store and eat a mostly non-meat diet since meat is so expensive for someone who has a less than $200 budget for food every month and become anemic. And so what the $14,000 you do make are considered “too much income” for all those cozy benefits they want to slash becasue “lazy” people do not know how to be responsbile and starve to death with dignity.

Go beg rich people to help out and be at their mercy for a loaf of bread, access to health care and a roof above your head. We do not need to have compassion and a safety net for our hard working fellow Americans in need of those benefits becasue of the policy decisions the likes of Ryan and Romney push for.

In addition to waging wars against a number of nations on our hit list of nations we do not approve of, it is especially fun to wage wars against decency, women, reason, Hispanics, blacks, freedom, gays, democracy, students and the 99%. Paul Ryan is a true Christian and human being in that regard.

Remember, we cannot place any burden on the wealthy. Sure their causes and policies are what created the recession but that doesn’t mean we cannot go after the elderly, the poor, the Medicare recipients, those damn starving parasites on food stamps,  hard working middle class wage earners and students to clean up and pay for the mess the wealthy created. This is totally what Jesus would have done.

Paul Ryan’s Christ Like Path to Prosperity Begins With Throwing Everyone but the 1% Under the Bus

So as Paul Ryan suggests, to avert the above mentioned from happening,  cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as food stamps, in place of looming cuts to defense spending are necessary and just the first step because the buck doesn’t stop there.

Here are some of Paul Ryan’s truly humane and conscionable cuts everyone in the lowest tax bracket, hedgfund millionaires, the 1% and Jesus himself completely endorse:

1) Paul Ryan’s most recent budget proposal would save those making between $20,000 and $30,000 just $246 in taxes, compared to savings of $265,011 for those who make over $1 million, according to analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

2)  The “Path to Prosperity” would cut $2.4 trillion from Medicaid and other health care programs for people with low or moderate incomes, according to analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

3) Under Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity” as many as 44 million fewer people would be covered under Medicaid, according to CBS News

4) Ryan would raise the age of Medicare eligibility from 65 to 67. If the Affordable Care Act was repealed, something Romney has pledged, that means many 65- and 66-year-olds would be left uninsured, theCBPP reports..

5) Under Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity,” senior citizens would have to pay as much as 68 percent of their health care coverage, up from 25 percent today,

6) Ryan’s proposed “Path to Prosperity” includes $134 billion in cuts to SNAP, according to analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, CBS News reports.

7) A single mother of two working full time at the minimum wage would have her Child Tax Credit cut by more than $1,500, assuming she made $14,500 a year, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

8) Compared to the most recent White House budget proposal, Ryan’s budget spends 33 percent less on education, training, employment and social services according to the Washington Post reports..

9) The current government worker pay freeze would be extended under the “Path to Prosperity,” meaning public-sector employees wouldn’t get a raise until at least 2015, the Washington Post reports

10) Ryan also plumps for his Medicare reforms as a solution to inequality. As you’ll remember, his budget proposes converting Medicare into a voucher system where seniors would be given a check and sent into a regulated private market to purchase insurance. The plan saves money because the check would grow at the rate of inflation, while health-care costs often increase three times faster than inflation, so, quite quickly, the check would cover only a small portion of an individual senior’s costs.

For rich seniors, this wouldn’t much matter. They could easily afford the cost of private insurance. For middle-income seniors, or lower-income seniors, it would be a disaster. Ryan offers them some subsidies, but not nearly enough. The cost of coverage would quickly outpace the resources many of them have to pay for it.

Republicans Aren’t Pro Life For No Reason

We are a government that deeply cares for its citizens, after all, we need them to pay taxes so the rich and corporations don’t have to, we need their kids as soldiers in wars that the rich kids don’t have to go to (that is, by the way where being anti abortion and “pro life” comes in handy *wink*), we need them as low wage workers in corporations whose stockholders and corporate executives are enriched by their labor, and if they get sick, hungry, disabled or become homeless well… tough luck. This is America, don’t you know.

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are both deeply religious, god fearing  men to whom life is precious and begins at conception.  Exploiting people is the American Dream and the Christ like thing to do.

And if you end up not being able to pull yourself by the bootstraps you do not have, well then your demise is collateral damage for the wealthy and smug politicians who always get the best health care, nice pensions and benefits paid for by those warm bodies we call the middle class and the poor.

Do not mistake the GOP’s hostility toward the majority of the population as a sign of them not caring. They do. They want you to not abort a child so there is one more source of tax revenue for them to pay for all the programs that benefit the 1%. They need you to work long hours without benefits so they can keep getting richer at your expense. This is all part of the compassionate path Paul Ryan keeps endorsing.

So see you insolent fools, the real enemy here are starving people on food stamps and single mothers and college grads, not to mention the elderly. We do not want to create a society where people have rights, are well fed, get an education without going bankrupt, have access to quality and affordable health care and job prospects with fair wages and benefits. Such a world would make it so hard for the wealthy to keep exploiting everyone – which is their god given right after all. Remember, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of god“…er, no wait.

Just remember that all the Republican policies referenced above  are nothing but a sign of love and care and respect for the American people and this grand nation, this beacon of light at the end of the tunnel, under the flag, guns and a cross.

The War Mongering That Was the Final Presidential Debate

Monday’s presidential debate exemplified everything that is wrong with U.S. foreign policy. Moreover, it has become apparent since the very first presidential debate that the substance of the debate is irrelevant when one of its participants just lies. I mean really, how do you debate with a liar? With a dishonest crook?

Mitt Romney has been exposed as an empty suit with dubious foreign policy credentials trying hard to look presidential by agreeing (or pretending to agree) with the President. In fact, he has been lying so much, he contradicts himself in the same speech with such ease it is as if he practices incompetence.  During the debate he first said that  “we can’t kill our way out of this.” Two minutes later he said that his strategy was “to go after the bad guys and kill them.”

Romney’s lies and contradictions (which ultimately have their roots in lies) have become so commonplace that people almost don’t notice it anymore it seems.  Or they do but they don’t point it out because then they would never get to do anything else.

I have nothing but contempt for Mitt Romney and his policies. He is an opportunistic liar with truly disturbing and contemptible policy objectives disguised in lofty speeches about love for one’s motherland, hard work and the American Dream, undoubtedly to appeal to the uninformed, simple minded voter.  Don’t for one second be fooled with his grandiose talks about helping the middle class – a term he and his supporters didn’t even know existed up until six months ago when they were briefed that using such a term would be politically expedient.

Romney doesn’t care about the middle class and he most certainly does not care about the poor, the elderly, and the less fortunate. In fact, he doesn’t even care about the 95% of the people he addresses and lies to in those rallies and who support his plutocratic agenda.  He is someone who made it his life’s work destroying the American Dream for countless people by decimating companies, sucking up their money, laying off their employees, stealing their retirements and taking away their health insurance while offering absolutely nothing to anyone but tons of money to line his own pockets.

The real Romney we saw, which may have been the only time we saw the real Romney, was during the infamous 47% speech, when he didn’t know the cameras were rolling as he was addressing his own kind – the out of touch millionaires and hedgefund holders – cracking jokes about the plight of most Americans and dismissing them by stating that 47% of them are nothing  but parasitic mooches who don’t work hard or know responsibility. After the video leaked he didn’t even try to deny it but instead stated that his comment was not “elegantly stated“. Yeah, cause that is the issue, that it wasn’t elegantly stated.

Mitt Romney’s dishonesty is only superseded by his callous indifference for not only 47% of Americans he and his plutocratic wife spit on, but also pretty much toward everyone who isn’t a wealthy white man.

War Mongering as a Foreign Policy Objective

The debate Wednesday was especially hard to watch because these men stood there dividing the world between them, talking about how they will essentially selectively meddle in other countries’s internal affairs when there is a vested, corporate interest, including the projection of military power. They were talking about the world as if it was theirs for the taking, making casual statements about what countries to militarily occupy and attack.  As if these weren’t people being killed in those wars but just push pins on the map to move around for our own political gain.

It must have been a chilling sight for foreign countries listening to both Obama’s and Romney’s warmongering and how they plan on taking down countries whose leaders and policies they do not approve of and thus impose more death to people around the world. And then their talk about nation building and how we must create civil society in those countries. It was paternalistic and condescending.

We live in a world in which a lot of suffering is taking place; unnecessary preventable suffering: from human rights violations to environmental destruction that is always a hindrance to economic development and human health, gender inequalities with life and death consequences and famines and food shortages resulting in tens of thousands of children dying each day. Yet all these two dido heads could talk about on the foreign policy front was war: when to start it and how much. The idea of not being engaged in any war at all did neither cross their or that of the “focus group’s” minds. It wasn’t even a question of whether to go to war or not, it was a question of when and for how long and to what extent.

Their fear and warmongering was further exemplified in their foolish attempts at outdoing each other in how loud they can shout out the words “sanctions against Iran“. As if what they proposed was an admirable thing and the only solution; as if at the other end of those sanctions there weren’t human beings suffering.

Mitt Romney made absolutely no distinction between the Iranian government and the Iranian people. President Obama, on the other hand,  tried to make a distinction, using  non-othering language to talk about how there are many Iranian people who have the same dreams people in the US do. Yet somehow all that went under in Romney’s feverish demands for more and more crippling sanctions. “Crippling sanctions do work! It’s the right thing to do to have crippling sanctions.” Romney’s disregard for anyone else but his own self interest is appalling. And this man calls himself a Christian.

It was also sickening to watch Romney advocate cutting programs that help people in this country access food, healthcare, and education in order to spend even more money on the military and with it war and destruction  It became apparent to me last night that Mitt Romney is not just offensive to America, he is offensive to humanity.

During the debate Romney bulled and disrespected the president and unloaded ridiculous, hyperbolic and unfounded lies onto the American people.  I definitely think Romney practices being condescending every day

Obama did not do much better either. While both were engaged in a bloodthirsty shouting match about tougher and harder sanctions on Iran, they added fuel to the warmongering by reaffirming America’s undying allegiance to Israel – which undoubtedly means military involvement from the U.S.  Obama prefaced his decision to “stand by Israel no matter what” by citing his visit to a Holocaust museum in Israel. As if him visiting a Holocaust museum had anything to do with US support of Israel or even was a perfectly sound justification for formulating U.S. foreign policy, obligating American tax payer dollars and lives.

To add insult to injury and as if the $ 70 million we do not have and which we had to borrow from China at high interest rate just a few months ago wasn’t enough, now we are also swearing allegiance to Israel by promising to charge to their rescue and wage another devastating war for the apartheid Zionist regime. In fact, Israel’s security was debated more than American security in the form of jobs or health care or mortgage foreclosures or fair elections.

Both candidates made it very clear that they will rub Israel’s back whenever it requests it while  everyone else gets crippling sanctions.

Memo to both candidates: going to war with everyone is not a foreign policy objective.

How Romney is to pay for any of this remains as elusive as his ten years worth of tax returns. The “man” wants a tax cut for everyone, including and most importantly the rich, he wants the DoD to remain severely overfunded building more Navy ships we do not need;  he is championing all sorts of wars – from Libya to Syria to Iran  – as well as our undying support of Israel – all without explaining how he is planning to pay for any of  that. Maybe he thinks he can poof it into existence much like Joseph Smith poofed the tablets from god into existence calling himself the second coming.

The truth, of course, is that Romney plans on paying for all those things by going after the poor and unfortunate or just the regular middle class wage earners. That has always been the plan of this corporate raider without a conscience. Everything else is just stiff he tells people to get their vote.

Going After Vulnerable Populations to Pay for Deficit

Corporate and individual greed in an unregulated economy and banking system created by the same kind of policies that Romney and Ryan are pushing have caused the recession, yet those issues cannot be touched when it comes to trying to find ways to reduce our debt. That is true for both Republicans and Democrats – even though Democrats are more inclined to go after private enterprise to protect workers and consumers.

What is up for discussion, however, are seniors and food stamp recipients and vulnerable populations –  such as hard working middle class wage earners, welfare recipients, seniors and college students.

During the debate Romney stated that the number of food stamp recipients has risen under Obama, demonizing and scapegoating those people as if they created the recession or were even part of the problem. Romney actually managed to turn something so basic as feeding people into a bad thing; a liability.

These entities have somehow become the fall guys, the target when it comes to our domestic policy objectives in terms of reducing the deficit. God forbid we make millionaires pay their fair share in taxes; as everyone knows it has been food stamp recipients and college students responsbile for the demise of our economy.

I’m waiting for the day that a politician stands up and says that even if food-stamps were just for people without jobs, that it is okay because letting people starve to death is not okay.

Syria and Iran Do Not Share Borders, Mr. Harvard Alum

I am also shocked that not more people are pointing out the fact that Romney is unaware that Syria is not Iran’s sea port and that there is a whole country between them.  This means that Romney doesn’t even know where these countries are on a map.  How could he possibly be placed in charge of foreign policy as our commander in chief? He stood up there talking about what he wants to do with each and every single one of them, snugly deciding fates and he doesn’t even know anything about their geography. And he wants to lead this nation. Shit that’s scary guys  (to be fair, I doubt most Americans are aware where those two countries are located on a map either).

That Mitt and his policies are contemptible is obvious. But the fact that nearly half of Americans who are going to cast a ballot this election actually buy that garbage is even more troubling. I understand why that greedy bastard Romney is trying to get his filthy and plutocraticpaws into the White House but why do all these poor schmucks who would definitely not benefit from even one piece of legislation proposed by Romney? Remember this is going to be a close race.

The US as the “Hope of the Earth”

After spending the last hour talking about the various ways with which he plans on dividing and conquering the world and killing people, Romney actually had the audacity to conclude his closing statement by stating that the United States is “the hope of the earth” and a “torch for the world to see.

The truth is that our problems as humanity are not going to be solved through wars and military confrontation  but through diplomacy and cooperation. War mongering and paternalizing our neighbors, exploiting and threatening them, arming warring entities and adding fuel to century’s old rivalries resulting in military confrontation are not what render a nation the “hope of the Earth“, they render it its nightmare and demise. The person holding the highest position of leadership  in this country has to truly understand this. Mitt Romney is not that person.

(Oh and memo to Romney: you are running as this country’s president, not prophet, so tone it down with the light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel and shelter-from-the-storm bullshit. )

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney Debate-opsy

I cannot believe the extent to which I – as a liberal – keep overestimating Obama. And with that I mean overestimate his backbone and willingness  – as well ability – to truly fight for his constituents instead of pulling his tail in and cowering into a corner, like he did during the first 2012 Presidential debate with Mitt Romney this past Wednesday.

If there is one thing I was sure of then it was that Obama would obliterate this plutocratic puke Mitt Romney at the debates; yet all he did was just stand there and nod like a school boy being dressed down by his principal. Obama did not even make an attempt to correct Romney who unloaded all these horrendous and shameless lies onto him and the American people.   It was as if the past year – and specifically the past few months – just had not happened.

We all knew Romney wanted to reset the campaign, but why did Obama? During the debate Obama, ironically enough, became the proverbial empty suit Eastwood has mocked just a few weeks ago during the RNC. He was so bad, he made Romney look good.  That is how epic-ly bad his comatose, cowardly performance was.

It is amazing. Romney has no tax plan, no health care plan, no jobs plan or any other kind of plan economic recovery plan for this country other than the busted “trickle down economics” myth and the “anything before Obama“mentality. His campaign consists of leaving behind a messy trail of lies, gross manipulations, gas lighting, flip flopping on issues and just a lot of foot in the mouth moments insulting our allies and adding fuel to century’s old rivalries  while masking his real agenda of catering to the greed of the 1% at the expense of everyone else.

Will the Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up

The 47% speech was the real Romney; that speech was from the heart – behind the cameras and behind closed doors, he was finally speaking the truth, showing his disdain for the American people and those who aren’t in the millionaire’s club.  Yet he somehow managed to wipe the floor with Obama during the debate. And he did so not by presenting facts and making a strong case for his candidacy, but by telling shameless, boldfaced lies – which is something to be expected from a corporate raider who spent his entire life scamming people.

For example, Romney said that Obama does not like bipartisanship, that he does not reach out to Republicans. In reality, everytime Obama tried to work with Republicans, they went out of their way to obstruct him.  In fact, after Republicans ended up with both the House and Senate majority in 2010,  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell admitted that “the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

Why did Obama not mention any of this?

Obama did not mention Romney’s supremely insulting and incriminating 47%  speech – in which he was for once speaking from the heart,  he did not mention Bain Capital at all – which says a lot more about Romney and his philosophy than anything else, he did not mention his 14% tax rate and he also did not confront him about his tax returns and his refusal to release them.

Finally, in a year where women’s reproductive rights have been under a vicious assault – from transvaginal probing of women who want to get abortions, to defunding Planned Parenthood, calling Sandra Fluke a slut for using contraceptives  to Akin’s “legitimate rape” and woman-give-off-certain-juices-when-raped-so-they-don’t-become-pregnant remarks, it was beyond bizarre, but mostly disappointing, that Obama just did not even mention anything in that regard. He looked like a school boy being dressed down by the principal.

The thing is that the above mentioned were issues that got a lot of undecided voters and those liberals who felt alienated by Obama’s repeated giving in to Republican demands, on Obama’s side. Yet he did not even mention them. And for that matter, he also did not mention same sex marriage and his support thereof.

What the fuck is wrong with this man?

Over 70 million people watched and this could have been an amazing opportunity for Obama to reach out and bring across the message and for once and all put an end to Romney’s lies and right out confront him and call him out in his lies.  And he blew it. The man blew it. He did the same thing that both John Kerry and Al Gore did, fail to take the battle to Romney.

The folly with Obama is that he does not want to fight dirty – if one can consider stating facts and confronting a liar as playing dirty –  and in in some ill conceived sense for bipartisanship he has given Republicans everything they wanted. What he he needs to realize, however, is that you cannot play fair and nice when you swim with sharks. Obama is going to have to get dirty. He’s going to have to kick, bite, scratch, and claw his way forward. Republicans have no interest in working with Obama or the American people, as they have made abundantly clear in the past by categorically opposing policies that would benefit the American people for no other reason than making Obama look bad.

Of course that is something he should have been doing for the last four years yet failed. He failed to bring true health care reform to this country in the from of government run insurance side by side private insurance; he utterly and miserably failed in the  Bush tax cuts issues – extending them for the richest people in exchange for nine months more of unemployment benefits; he did not go after BP; he did not go after Wall Street. He stayed mums on the Right wing’s audacious and callous attacks on women’s reproductive rights – only mentioning it as a talking point during his speeches –  and he let Republicans hold the raise of the debt ceiling hostage in exchange of Obama budging in on budget issues – which is absurd because the debt ceiling is about money already spent while the budget is about money going to be spend.

There is a time and place for diplomacy and holding the moral high ground. And there is a time to fight. Trying to hold the moral high ground while being lied to and bullied, as was the case with the debate on Wednesday, is not one of those occasions where diplomacy will work. Obama can’t win on Hope and Change and Yes We Can this time because there is no longer any Hope, there was no real meaningful Change, and he may still believe that Yes We Can is possible but there are a lot of Buts after the slogan.

On Wednesday the President did not make the case for himself;  he did not call out the lies or even make the case as to why we should vote for him. I could not sleep that night wondering what has happened to Obama and what a truly horrific future is to await all of us if Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan – two people who represent the cold side of humanity – were to become the leaders of this nation because of Obama’s lack of courage. I also kept wondering how Mitt Romney –  with his horrible policies and the plutocratic, dystopian future he has in stow for all of us, – could even get this far.

Yet there is a real chance he may make it. I blame uninformed and “independent” voters. How can anyone  think positively of a guy who in his heart of hearts believes that half of Americans are irresponsible mooches who view themselves as victims who are uninspired and unmotivated to improve their lives and irresponsible?

I also would love to know who taught Obama that checking your balls at the door is a sign of a competent and strong leader. It is one thing to get riled up confirming the stereotype of the  “angry black man”, it is quite something else to stand there and let someone bully and insult you in the face while you say nothing. Of course, this wouldn’t concern me if the American people weren’t intellectually challenged, but they are. The fact that Obama has this knack of regularly fucking up when it comes down do it is remarkable. That man has a sense for screwing up when his supporters count on him the most, it is amazing.

Vice Presidential Parasite Paul Ryan Will Only Release Two Years Worth of Tax Returns

In a gesture full of respect and concern for the American people, Paul Ryan – Mitt Romney’s vice presidential pick – gave said American people the finger by announcing that he would only release two years worth of his tax records to the public; the same amount of years that Governor Romney has released.

In reality, of course, Romney has only released his 2010 tax return and even those were missing half the information. He has also only given an estimate on his 2011 taxes – which he plans to fully publish (read: after his attorneys and PR folks fix and redact it) before the election.

This is a clever move. By stating that he will only release two years of taxes, “just like the Governor”, he is moving the focus of Romney’s taxes and his refusal to release more than two years, onto the broader debate of candidates releasing tax returns. This way, no one can accuse Romney of trying to hide anything because, after all, it was merely policy by his campaign to not release anyone’s tax returns beyond two years – not just Romney’s.

But the bigger problem that irks me is the attitude. The arrogance and the audacity to give the voter base such a condescending response.

Here you go America. Stick this in your pipe and smoke it.  I ain’t releasing shit to you. You can take it or leave it.”

This was a huge bird he flipped because by saying he will only release two years of tax returns Paul Ryan is basically behaving in the same condescending manner as Ann Romney when she said “you people” got all the info you need to crown us president and presidentette of this kingdom.

Ryan is basically telling us to go and shove it and be happy with whatever information he thinks we need to know and which he is willing to throw our way – and go vote for him already, dammit.

This kind of behavior is typical for Romney and his elitist, exploitative rich buddies who own football teams and elevators for their cars and have nothing but dangerous policies in mind with sinister outcomes.

They seem to think of the American people, the people they are working for and who put them in charge, as this nuisance; as this inevitable, annoying, pestering entity they have to unfortunately go through to get to what they really want to do: turn America and this government into nothing but tools to further causes that are detrimental for 99% of the population and ultimately the whole world.

Don’t think for one second that Europe’s economy going belly up had nothing to with the economic meltdown in the US.

The United States is Not a Corporation You Raid

The deranged duo

Who do Romney and Ryan really think they are?

And what country do they think they are running for?

The United States is an idea, it is a vision -it is about democracy, autonomy and freedom. It is about tolerance and respect. It is about equity. It is about creating something above yourself for the greater good of everyone. Our Founding Fathers ran way from those shackles of the mind, soul and pocket to create a society in which all men are equal and can prosper and lead dignified lives. Not one in which a few enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else, ripping apart what they have, to suck the juice from the carcasses. That is not what America is.

It is not some company you raid and whose employees (i.e. the voting population) you discard and take away power from to obscenely enrich yourself and then insult them by calling yourself American and a patriot but them traitors and un-American for wanting access to health care, a job, an education, clean water to drink and clean air to breathe.

Mitt Romney is not a good American. He dodged military service with a deferment taking him to Paris. He has accounts invested who knows where around the world as though he were hedging his bet on the USA and he has a business career based not upon creating and growing domestic industry but in bankrupting companies and laying off its employees, sucking up their retirements and pensions to then line his own pockets.

Capitalism relies on markets and supply and demand, not bankrupting companies, mass layoffs and creating monopolies.  Social drawinism is not capitalism. Vulcher capitalism is not capitalism.

Mitt Romney is not a patriot, he is a traitor. He is a parasite. Nothing in his business or personal life and choices suggests otherwise.

So… no more tax returns you fuckers.  That is what Ryan’s response means. Nothing more and nothing less.

Mitt Romney Solidifies His Candidacy for President of the United 1% of America by Picking Attila the Hun Paul Ryan as his VP Running Mate

The Destructive Duo

In a move reminiscent of a terrifying episode on the Twilight Zone, Mitt Romney  – the poster child for greed, dishonesty hypocrisy and the end of the American Dream – picked Paul Ryan, a callous cut throat politician with ethics a notch underneath that of a child molester, and whom Obama accused of favoring a “thinly veiled social Darwinism“, as his presidential running mate. And with that an unholy alliance; a match in political hell, is born.

Romney couldn’t have picked a better person for the job, as Ryan personifies every bit the things Romney stands for but is just too clumsy and inept to put in a coherent sentence.

So in a nutshell, here are some facts about Paul Ryan which, one can only hope, the American people will take into account when casting their vote this November.

  • Paul Ryan’s role model, philosophical inspiration and muse is psychopath Ayn Rand, a 20th-century libertarian novelist best known for her “philosophy” that centered on the idea that selfishness is “virtue.” Rand described altruism as “evil,” condemned Christianity for advocating compassion for the poor, viewed the feminist movement as “phony,” and called Arabs “almost totally primitive savages.” Though he publicly rejected “her philosophy” in 2012, Ryan had professed himself a strong devotee. “The reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand,” he said at a D.C. gathering honoring the author of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. “I give out ‘Atlas Shrugged’ as Christmas presents, and I make all my interns read it. Well… I try to make my interns read it.”
  • Paul Ryan favors tax increases for middle class wage earners to basically make up for trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy. His infamous budget — which Romney embraced — replaces the current tax structure with two brackets — 25 percent and 10 percent — and cut the top rate from 35 percent. Federal tax collections would fall by about $4.5 trillion over the next decade as a result and to avoid increasing the national debt, the budget proposes massive cuts in social programs and “special-interest loopholes and tax shelters that litter the code.” But 62 percent of the savings would come from programs that benefit the lower- and middle-classes, who would also experience a tax increase. That’s because while Ryan would extend the Bush tax cuts, which are due to expire at the end of this year, he would not extend President Obama’s tax cuts for those with the lowest incomes, which will expire at the same time. Households earning more than $1 million a year, meanwhile, could see a net tax cut of about $300,000 annually
  • Ryan’s budget would semi privatize Medicare and turn it into a voucher program, increasing seniors’ costs by up to $6,350 per year. In essence what the program does is give seniors a voucher worth around $6,000 a year with which they then go “shop around” for private plans or traditional fee-for-service Medicare, because we all know how much insurance companies are just dying to insure the elderly. In reality, no insurance company will insure a senior citizen with pre-exiting condition for $ 6,000 a year, which effectively would leave those elderly without health-care, unless they can come up with whatever the difference is between the $6,000 from medicare and what the insurance company demands as annual premium.   This program would effectively end medicare in the United States as we know it. Not to mention that for most people this equals a death sentence.
  • Paul Ryan wants to end social security, which he refers to as a “ponzi scheme”. In September of 2011, Ryan agreed with Rick Perry’s characterization of Social Security as a “Ponzi scheme” and since 2005 has advocated for privatizing the retirement benefit and investing it in stocks and bonds. Conservatives claim that this would “outperform the current formula based on wages earned and overall wage appreciation,” but the economic crisis of 2008 should serve as a wake-up call for policymakers who seek to hinge Americans’ retirement on the stock market. In fact, “a person with a private Social Security account similar to what President George W. Bush proposed in 2005″ would havelost much of their retirement savings.
  • Ryan’s budget would result in 4.1 million lost jobs in 2 years. Ryan’s budget calls for massive reductions in government spending. He has proposed cutting discretionary spending by about $120 billion over the next two years and mandatory programs by $284 billion, which, the Economic Policy Institute estimates, would suck demand out of the economy and reduce employment by 1.3 million jobs in fiscal 2013 and 2.8 million jobs in fiscal 2014, relative to current budget policies.
  • Paul Ryan wants to eliminate Pell Grants for more more than 1 million students. Pell Grants, which help cover tuition costs for low-income Americans, are on Ryan;’s list of cuts, which he wants to cut by $200 billion, which would ultimately knock more than one million students off the program over the next 10 years
  •  Paul Ryan supports $40 billion in subsides for big oil. In 2011, Ryan joined all House Republicans and 13 Democrats in his vote to keep Big Oil tax loopholes as part of the FY 2011 spending bill. His budget would retain a decade’s worth of oil tax breaks worth $40 billion, while cutting billions of dollars from investments to develop alternative fuels and clean energy technologies that would serve as substitutes for oil. For instance, it calls for a $3 billion cut in energy programs in FY 2013 alone and would spend only $150 million over five years — or 20 percent of what was invested in 2012 — on energy programs.  Ryan “and his wife, Janna, own stakes in four family companies that lease land in Texas and Oklahoma to the very energy companies that benefit from the tax subsidies in Ryan’s budget plan,” The Daily Beast reported in June of 2011. “Ryan’s father-in-law, Daniel Little, who runs the companies, told Newsweek and The Daily Beast that the family companies are currently leasing the land for mining and drilling to energy giants such as Chesapeake Energy, Devon, and XTO Energy, a recently acquired subsidiary of ExxonMobil.
  • Paul Ryan opposes a woman’s right to choose.
  • Paul Ryan supports an amendment to the Constitution that says life begins at fertilization. Ryan joined 62 other Republicans in co-sponsoring the Sanctity of Human Life Act, which declares that a fertilized egg “shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood.” This would outlaw abortion, some forms of contraception and invitro fertilization
  • Paul Ryan supports making the coverage of birth control illegal based on religious views
  • Paul Ryan wants to end medicaid on a federal level and turn it into a state program, which would mean the end of medicaid for the poor  – the ones who need it the most.
  • Paul Ryan voted against legislation aimed at erasing pay discrimination against women.
  • Ryan, like Romney, favors the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy.
  • Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy.
  • Paul Ryan voted for two wars that were unpaid for.
  • Paul Ryan voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for.
  • Paul Ryan voted for the prescription drug bill that wasn’t paid for.

So here is Paul Ryan for you. A contemptible jerk who loves to go after the poor and the unfortunate. A cowardly, callou fresh of the boat rodent ready to ruin the United States, one legislation at a time and a smirk on his face.

What Romney and Ryan, the Dystopian Duo, want is really a return to the Robber Baron age of unregulated capitalism and social Darwinism where millions suffered in extreme poverty without access to food or medical care and where elders were forced to live with their children or in extreme poverty.

Moreover, the trickle down economics he so much favors used to maybe work at a time when people didn’t have to be billionaires. In today’s economy, however, nothing trickles down but more work with less pay.

The assumption, of course, is that the American people are wise enough to understand the truly disastrous and detrimental direction these two will take us and thus not vote for this ticket.  Given two terms of George W. Bush that ultimately ruined our economy and just the systematic way people in this country keep voting against their own self interest, that is an assumption I am not willing to make so easily.
