Louisiana Republican: When I Voted for State Funds to go to Religious Schools, I Didn’t Mean Muslim Ones
There are many reasons why religion is bad for human kind. And one of those myriad of reasons is Louisiana Rep. Valarie Hodges.
So without further ado, I present to you exhibit number 345,667,567: Ms. Hodges.
See, Ms Hodges is kind of an asshole. But an asshole of the pious kind so I guess that makes it all ok.
Yes, we know, she is just exercising her faith and we all must accept and respect that.
Well, no we don’t. Not when public funds are used for it.
So let’s back-track: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, in an attempt to overhaul Louisiana’s education system, put a voucher program into place that allows state funds to be used to send students to religiously-affiliated schools.
Nevermind that this is a supremely unconstitutional policy because taxpayer dollars are used to fund someone’s faith (while, at the same time, churches remain tax exempt). The real issue people, especially Representative Hodges – who has been fiercely supporting the voucher – now have is the realization that the term “religiously affiliated schools” also includes other faiths, such as the much dreaded Islam.
So after officially withdrawing her support at the idea that Muslims and schools that teach about Islam might benefit from funding, she released the following statement that is a true testament to her minuscule mind as well as un-christ-like heart and general callous indifference:
HODGES: “I actually support funding for teaching the fundamentals of America’s Founding Fathers’ religion, which is Christianity, in public schools or private schools…Unfortunately it will not be limited to the Founders’ religion [Christianity]. We need to insure that it does not open the door to fund radical Islam schools. There are a thousand Muslim schools that have sprung up recently. I do not support using public funds for teaching Islam anywhere here in Louisiana.”
The religion of the Founders? The Founders had no religion and no mention of Christianity (which Ms. Hodges uses interchangeably with the term religion) has ever been made by them in either the Deceleration of Independence or in the Constitution. And if it was mentioned, it was done so in exclusionary terms so as to clarify what government is not supposed to be used for – such as, I don’t know, funding someone’s religious belief with public funds.
Could it be, that it was exactly that, you pudding of a woman Hodges? Because your Christian and funded-by-tax-dollars-ass is not supposed to be funding any kind of religiously affiliated schools – Islam, Judaism, Jainism, or Christianity.
So why is religion bad for human kind you ask?
