Religious people and their apologizers do that all the time: It is all good and holy when things go well. Until someone gets hurt, of course, or a follower starts doing something they don’t like. Then, suddenly, they say their faith is misunderstood, misinterpreted and that in fact it is not what their faith is at all about
It is disgusting how out of fear of being called “Islamophobic” people, our President included, keep pandering to this sinister religion and its followers. There is nothing good about Islam and those Muslims who do not act like ISIS or what others call “extremists” are the ones just not taking their religion seriously, and not – as everyone would have us believe – because they are the true Muslims. True Muslims are ISIS, the Taliban and the vice ministry of Saudi Arabia and their credo and agenda is very clear. Sharia is not confined to a lunatic fringe, it is a core of Islam and its teachings. I don’t understand why people don’t get that.
In the Hadith book, which is a report of the teachings, deeds and sayings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, there is AN ENTIRE CHAPTER of Prescribed Punishments (Kitab Al-Hudud) – that deals with all the ways one should punish those who disobey god or cross him or dont worship him right, including calling for the execution of gays.
Let me repeat this for you: ISLAM CALLS FOR THE EXECUTION OF GAYS (Qur’an (7:80-84) , Qur’an (7:81) , Qur’an (4:16) , Abu Dawud (4462) , Abu Dawud (4448) – “If a man who is not married is seized committing sodomy, he will be stoned to death.” (Note the implicit approval of sodomizing one’s wife)., Bukhari (72:774)…)
So I am not really interested in hearing crap like “respecting other peoples’ beliefs” when other peoples’ beliefs are not only harmful but right out fucked up sinister and call for the execution of people based on their sexual orientation and a host of attributes their god doesn’t approve of.
Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli of Iran said, in April of 2012, that homosexuals are inferior to dogs and pigs, since these animals (presumably) do not engage in such acts. In November of that year, a cleric on British television stated, “What should be done to those who practice homosexuality? Torture them; punish them; beat them and give them mental torture.”
Why am I anti-Islam? Well, for the simple reason that Islam is anti-me, and it’s anti every fundamental value I hold.
This is not just people saying gays shouldn’t get married, which is bad enough, this is people saying they should be killed. There is a difference. And not just gays but infidels and women who show skin and have sex before marriage and atheists and anyone who violates what Muhammed preached.
No one is obliged to pander to these people and be polite and give them a platform and forum to spread their hatred and such worldviews that are barbaric, dangerous and beyond harmful. We have an obligation to speak up and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.
I really want to see people who keep saying Islam is the religion of peace and understood to actually open up aKoran and read it cover to cover. Because the reality is that it is not. It is a wretched book all about how one should take revenge on and punish people who do not obey the words of god as dictated to Muahmmed. There is nothing heart-warming and peaceful about Islam. And people who say it are painfully delusional and tragically misguided.
People who defend Islam need to educate themselves about Islam and what it teaches. If you practice and abide by a worldview that calls for the annihilation of those who disagree with them, then you have no right to speak your mind.
It is a proud, proud moment for war mongers – Republican and Democrat alike – because President Obama – you know, this amazing shining beacon of Progressivism and the man who was going to do things differently and bring about change we can truly believe and who was supposed to finally be the person to break us out of bad habits such as engaging in fabricated, pointless, illegitimate and not well-thought-out wars that do nothing but suck up our resources and create a milieu ripe for extremists and other such scum that keep targeting us and our people – finally became yet another President to announce military engagement in Iraq, this time without trying to pretend we do it for nation building.
Not wanting to be the first President in a long line of Presidents to not announce military airstrike in Iraq, President Obama proudly announced a bombing campaign in Iraq stating equally proudly that the United States has taken the first step in its planned expanded fight against Islamic State militants (ISIS) going to the “aid” (uh-huh) of Iraqi security forces near Baghdad who were being attacked by enemy fighters.
The U.S. Central Command said it conducted two airstrikes Sunday and Monday in support of the Iraqi forces near Sinjar and southwest of Baghdad.
A vote on the broader use of military force against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) isn’t expected to happen until after Election Day because, of course not. First you lie to the public with lofty speeches and then once you got their votes, you turn around and do what you wanted to do all along by saying something about national security and changing priorities.
The White House feels good about the chances for getting authorization for the package through Congress, a senior administration official said. Obama spoke with lawmakers from both parties on Monday and, according to the official, is personally gratified that he has received support from Republican and Democratic leaders for the proposal.
According to the White House, officials weren’t sure the idea would receive bipartisan support with the public still wary of military action following the Bush years. But, the official said, congressional leaders expressed bipartisan agreement for that path forward during an Oval Office meeting last week with Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Boehner and Obama spoke last Wednesday on the telephone and have cooperated in trying to move the package forward — a sharp shift from the chilliness over much of the last year.
It is interesting that there is bipartisan support for the President’s plan (always a sign that something is amiss because if Republicans are for it, it cannot be good) because nothing brings politicians together more than war and, of course, one is not bound to find a Republican who never met a war he didn’t like.
The only extent to which Republicans and Democrats differ from one another in this is that Republicans worry the military actions will not go far enough (66%) whereas by contrast, 54% of Democrats say their bigger concern is that it will go too far.
This is amazing: we now have gone straight from nation building to military building and we are not even trying to pretend otherwise anymore.
Of course, the bigger question to ask – and which everyone on Capitol Hill and the White House refuses to ask – is whether we really think that bombing Iraq once again, thus undoubtedly causing the deaths of countless innocent people and creating the kind of havoc only war can create, to maybe get a few ISIS operatives is going to put an end to ISIS.
The thing is that ISIS is the symptom of a larger problem. You bomb and kill them, two new groups will grow in their place in no time and the cycle continues.
That is why military action in such a short-sighted, knee-jerk manner is not the answer. We need to step back and rethink our strategy toward the Middle East altogether, not engage in those very acts that created the milieu that gave rise to entities like ISIS in the first place.
I am afraid that all this will do is perpetuate the violence, create an even bigger disdain for the US and, worse of all, cost the lives of countless innocent people as collateral damage before we are back at square one.
Not to mention that we cannot afford this. Our last engagement in Iraq nearly bankrupted us, we cannot afford another war, however short-lived it allegedly may be. And it will not be short-lived. Once you are in, once you start arming rebels and becoming part of the deal, there is no easy way out. You are bound to stay around to continue and finish what you started. It took us nearly a decade to get out of Iraq (and we are still not really fully out) and we are still in Afghanistan.
I am absolutely terrified and appalled that going to war has become such an easy thing to do with our lawmakers.
We are such a disgraceful country and seem to seriously have no other priorities besides stealing from the masses to get a few people rich and go to wars.
We keep insisting that we do not have the funds to feed our hungry and, therefore, slash food-stamps and welfare programmes; that we cannot extend unemployment benefits for the long-term unemployed; that we cannot increase the minimum wage (as we speak, Republicans have blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act once again); over the past six or seven years, Republicans have fought tooth and nail to make sure we do not get the Affordable Care Act which makes affordable health care accessible to everyone; we claim we do not have the money to build on, strengthen and expand our social safety net programs and enact a host of middle-class strengthening policies citing lack of resources and a deficit (which, ironically, was created, among other things, by being in a perpetual state of war); we say we cannot regulate polluters and strengthen regulatory agencies to safeguard the environment and with it our health, slashing their funding, but somehow we seem to be able to always find copious amounts of money to engage in yet another expensive military strike under questionable rationales.
While her husband, President Barack Obama, has been obsessed with nothing else but attacking Syria and flying all over the world trying to sell a war like it was a bill of goods, Michelle Obama decided to ignore the proverbial giant pink elephant in the room that is her husband’s war mongering and urged military servicemembers, veterans and their families to make use of mental-health resources when they need help as a result of a war that’s fucked them emotionally.
In an an exclusive video for The Huffington Post‘s “Invisible Casualties” series, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Dr. Jill Biden to wholeheartedly and with compassion talk about the “unseen wounds of war” urging – without compunction and a shred of irony – that those vets who do suffer from the terrible consequences of war and have suicidal thoughts as a result – make use of the various mental health services available to them – completely ignoring the fact that as we speak, her husband is planning yet another unjust war we, as a nation, can neither afford, nor have any business to engage in, and most importantly, do not want.
Shame has no boundaries. Even in the case of otherwise very smart, educated people like Michelle Obama and Jill Biden.
Dear Michelle, if you really care about those veterans, then maybe tonight, when you take off your $600 a pair of Jimmy Choos and call it a day, you care to brief your hubby on not starting any more wars. Maybe you should advise him that sending young men and women off to fight in a couple of hellholes in the Middle East for oil, Israel and the military industrial complex, results in the kind of severe emotional and psychological trauma that makes them want to kill themselves; maybe you care to tell him that even though being caught up in that whole “patriotism” thing and putting ribbons on the backs of our SUVs was fun, maybe the best way to prevent emotional damage to people who are sent to war and then want to go kill themselves as a result is to not send them in the first place.
Those brave men and women that have been used by this government, in the name of god and patriotism, to fight wars for power and money and other dubious reasons don’t need you to tell them to go seek help after they have been knowingly put in a situation that we all know causes those things. ifyou really want to help, then create a climate where they are not sent to those wars in the first place.
What Michelle Obama is doing is the equivalent of a company urging people that have become sick with cancer from its contamination of the water supply to please go seek medical help for the very contamination that they are continuing to cause.
Monday’s presidential debate exemplified everything that is wrong with U.S. foreign policy. Moreover, it has become apparent since the very first presidential debate that the substance of the debate is irrelevant when one of its participants just lies. I mean really, how do you debate with a liar? With a dishonest crook?
Mitt Romney has been exposed as an empty suit with dubious foreign policy credentials trying hard to look presidential by agreeing (or pretending to agree) with the President. In fact, he has been lying so much, he contradicts himself in the same speech with such ease it is as if he practices incompetence. During the debate he first said that “we can’t kill our way out of this.” Two minutes later he said that his strategy was “to go after the bad guys and kill them.”
Romney’s lies and contradictions (which ultimately have their roots in lies) have become so commonplace that people almost don’t notice it anymore it seems. Or they do but they don’t point it out because then they would never get to do anything else.
I have nothing but contempt for Mitt Romney and his policies. He is an opportunistic liar with truly disturbing and contemptible policy objectives disguised in lofty speeches about love for one’s motherland, hard work and the American Dream, undoubtedly to appeal to the uninformed, simple minded voter. Don’t for one second be fooled with his grandiose talks about helping the middle class – a term he and his supporters didn’t even know existed up until six months ago when they were briefed that using such a term would be politically expedient.
Romney doesn’t care about the middle class and he most certainly does not care about the poor, the elderly, and the less fortunate. In fact, he doesn’t even care about the 95% of the people he addresses and lies to in those rallies and who support his plutocratic agenda. He is someone who made it his life’s work destroying the American Dream for countless people by decimating companies, sucking up their money, laying off their employees, stealing their retirements and taking away their health insurance while offering absolutely nothing to anyone but tons of money to line his own pockets.
The real Romney we saw, which may have been the only time we saw the real Romney, was during the infamous 47% speech, when he didn’t know the cameras were rolling as he was addressing his own kind – the out of touch millionaires and hedgefund holders – cracking jokes about the plight of most Americans and dismissing them by stating that 47% of them are nothing but parasitic mooches who don’t work hard or know responsibility. After the video leaked he didn’t even try to deny it but instead stated that his comment was not “elegantly stated“. Yeah, cause that is the issue, that it wasn’t elegantly stated.
Mitt Romney’s dishonesty is only superseded by his callous indifference for not only 47% of Americans he and his plutocratic wife spit on, but also pretty much toward everyone who isn’t a wealthy white man.
War Mongering as a Foreign Policy Objective
The debate Wednesday was especially hard to watch because these men stood there dividing the world between them, talking about how they will essentially selectively meddle in other countries’s internal affairs when there is a vested, corporate interest, including the projection of military power. They were talking about the world as if it was theirs for the taking, making casual statements about what countries to militarily occupy and attack. As if these weren’t people being killed in those wars but just push pins on the map to move around for our own political gain.
It must have been a chilling sight for foreign countries listening to both Obama’s and Romney’s warmongering and how they plan on taking down countries whose leaders and policies they do not approve of and thus impose more death to people around the world. And then their talk about nation building and how we must create civil society in those countries. It was paternalistic and condescending.
We live in a world in which a lot of suffering is taking place; unnecessary preventable suffering: from human rights violations to environmental destruction that is always a hindrance to economic development and human health, gender inequalities with life and death consequences and famines and food shortages resulting in tens of thousands of children dying each day. Yet all these two dido heads could talk about on the foreign policy front was war: when to start it and how much. The idea of not being engaged in any war at all did neither cross their or that of the “focus group’s” minds. It wasn’t even a question of whether to go to war or not, it was a question of when and for how long and to what extent.
Their fear and warmongering was further exemplified in their foolish attempts at outdoing each other in how loud they can shout out the words “sanctions against Iran“. As if what they proposed was an admirable thing and the only solution; as if at the other end of those sanctions there weren’t human beings suffering.
Mitt Romney made absolutely no distinction between the Iranian government and the Iranian people. President Obama, on the other hand, tried to make a distinction, using non-othering language to talk about how there are many Iranian people who have the same dreams people in the US do. Yet somehow all that went under in Romney’s feverish demands for more and more crippling sanctions. “Crippling sanctions do work! It’s the right thing to do to have crippling sanctions.” Romney’s disregard for anyone else but his own self interest is appalling. And this man calls himself a Christian.
It was also sickening to watch Romney advocate cutting programs that help people in this country access food, healthcare, and education in order to spend even more money on the military and with it war and destruction It became apparent to me last night that Mitt Romney is not just offensive to America, he is offensive to humanity.
During the debate Romney bulled and disrespected the president and unloaded ridiculous, hyperbolic and unfounded lies onto the American people. I definitely think Romney practices being condescending every day
Obama did not do much better either. While both were engaged in a bloodthirsty shouting match about tougher and harder sanctions on Iran, they added fuel to the warmongering by reaffirming America’s undying allegiance to Israel – which undoubtedly means military involvement from the U.S. Obama prefaced his decision to “stand by Israel no matter what” by citing his visit to a Holocaust museum in Israel. As if him visiting a Holocaust museum had anything to do with US support of Israel or even was a perfectly sound justification for formulating U.S. foreign policy, obligating American tax payer dollars and lives.
To add insult to injury and as if the $ 70 million we do not have and which we had to borrow from China at high interest rate just a few months ago wasn’t enough, now we are also swearing allegiance to Israel by promising to charge to their rescue and wage another devastating war for the apartheid Zionist regime. In fact, Israel’s security was debated more than American security in the form of jobs or health care or mortgage foreclosures or fair elections.
Both candidates made it very clear that they will rub Israel’s back whenever it requests it while everyone else gets crippling sanctions.
Memo to both candidates: going to war with everyone is not a foreign policy objective.
How Romney is to pay for any of this remains as elusive as his ten years worth of tax returns. The “man” wants a tax cut for everyone, including and most importantly the rich, he wants the DoD to remain severely overfunded building more Navy ships we do not need; he is championing all sorts of wars – from Libya to Syria to Iran – as well as our undying support of Israel – all without explaining how he is planning to pay for any of that. Maybe he thinks he can poof it into existence much like Joseph Smith poofed the tablets from god into existence calling himself the second coming.
The truth, of course, is that Romney plans on paying for all those things by going after the poor and unfortunate or just the regular middle class wage earners. That has always been the plan of this corporate raider without a conscience. Everything else is just stiff he tells people to get their vote.
Going After Vulnerable Populations to Pay for Deficit
Corporate and individual greed in an unregulated economy and banking system created by the same kind of policies that Romney and Ryan are pushing have caused the recession, yet those issues cannot be touched when it comes to trying to find ways to reduce our debt. That is true for both Republicans and Democrats – even though Democrats are more inclined to go after private enterprise to protect workers and consumers.
What is up for discussion, however, are seniors and food stamp recipients and vulnerable populations – such as hard working middle class wage earners, welfare recipients, seniors and college students.
During the debate Romney stated that the number of food stamp recipients has risen under Obama, demonizing and scapegoating those people as if they created the recession or were even part of the problem. Romney actually managed to turn something so basic as feeding people into a bad thing; a liability.
These entities have somehow become the fall guys, the target when it comes to our domestic policy objectives in terms of reducing the deficit. God forbid we make millionaires pay their fair share in taxes; as everyone knows it has been food stamp recipients and college students responsbile for the demise of our economy.
I’m waiting for the day that a politician stands up and says that even if food-stamps were just for people without jobs, that it is okay because letting people starve to death is not okay.
Syria and Iran Do Not Share Borders, Mr. Harvard Alum
I am also shocked that not more people are pointing out the fact that Romney is unaware that Syria is not Iran’s sea port and that there is a whole country between them. This means that Romney doesn’t even know where these countries are on a map. How could he possibly be placed in charge of foreign policy as our commander in chief? He stood up there talking about what he wants to do with each and every single one of them, snugly deciding fates and he doesn’t even know anything about their geography. And he wants to lead this nation. Shit that’s scary guys (to be fair, I doubt most Americans are aware where those two countries are located on a map either).
That Mitt and his policies are contemptible is obvious. But the fact that nearly half of Americans who are going to cast a ballot this election actually buy that garbage is even more troubling. I understand why that greedy bastard Romney is trying to get his filthy and plutocraticpaws into the White House but why do all these poor schmucks who would definitely not benefit from even one piece of legislation proposed by Romney? Remember this is going to be a close race.
The US as the “Hope of the Earth”
After spending the last hour talking about the various ways with which he plans on dividing and conquering the world and killing people, Romney actually had the audacity to conclude his closing statement by stating that the United States is “the hope of the earth” and a “torch for the world to see.“
The truth is that our problems as humanity are not going to be solved through wars and military confrontation but through diplomacy and cooperation. War mongering and paternalizing our neighbors, exploiting and threatening them, arming warring entities and adding fuel to century’s old rivalries resulting in military confrontation are not what render a nation the “hope of the Earth“, they render it its nightmare and demise. The person holding the highest position of leadership in this country has to truly understand this. Mitt Romney is not that person.
(Oh and memo to Romney: you are running as this country’s president, not prophet, so tone it down with the light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel and shelter-from-the-storm bullshit. )
Whenever I think of Angelina Jolie, I think of a spoiled, pampered incredibly wealthy young woman who dabbles in good deeds to fill the time between shopping sprees, world tours and endless parties. At the Sarajevo premiere of her movie In the Land of Honey and Blood, Angelina Jolie was right on track with that mantra when she got all emotional talking about her movie and her hope that it would be a wake-up call and inspiration for politicians and leaders around the world to do something about what is happening in Syria right now.
I am all for giving, humanitarian aide and just doing things for others; we need more of that in this world driven by selfish, narcissistic people posing as human beings, but there is just something so insincere about these two assholes. I am tired of their self righteous, sanctimonious crap and this pretending that they are not overpaid actors who shot to fame based on their looks, addictions and the number and nature of their sex partners, rather than because of their talent, intelligence and hard work.
On the one hand they want to keep it all private, on the other hand they flaunt it every opportunity they can, such as making out on the red carpet or inviting camera crews over to their house so they can photograph Jolie nursing one of her babies. Angelina goes to an African village talking about the plight of the people and then three days later is seen carrying a $5,000 Louis Vuitton bag that could feed the village for a couple of months.
It almost feels like they get a kick out of going to impoverished countries and “helping” out (i.e. self promoting); like it was a sexual arousal thing that gets them both off. It honestly woudn’t surprise me given Angelina’s sordid past and her fucked up habits like carrying a vial of Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck. Sort of like in The Postman Always Rings Twice, where Jessica Lange and Jack Nicholson fuck right at the scene of the crash where her husband is bleeding to death and dying. I really think these two get some kind of a pleasure or arousal from this adopting children from some third world shit hole thing and going to deeply troubled and impoverished countries with their luxury handbags, designer clothes and half a dozen mansions, chalets and estates around the world to their name. It is almost like the more impoverished and destitute the country, the higher the arousal and appeal factor for this pair of assholes.
They say that “sincerity is everything. Once you learn to fake that, the rest is easy.” I must say it is quite ironic that these two, despite their alleged tremendous acting skills, have not been able to fake that at least so that when they do take the high ground, it is believable. How in touch with reality can two millionaires a hundred times over with egos the size of entire nations really be? Exactly…
